Every website studio has one site that visitors judge most critically: its own. Here's the story of how this one came together — and what it revealed, which I now apply to every client project.

The challenge: your own site has no excuses

When I promise a client a fast, technically sound, well-designed website, my own is the most honest benchmark. There's no client deadline to blame, no limited budget — just the question of whether I can actually deliver what I promise. So this site wasn't built once and forgotten; I regularly check it with the same tools I recommend to clients.

Approach: a dark, distinctive identity

The design is built on a dark green base with a teal-to-blue gradient — dark enough to feel calm, vivid enough to feel alive. The generative pixel animation in the hero section is the studio's signature: every pixel literally forms the text, a small but clear nod to the name PIKSEL ATELJE. The type pairing (Space Grotesk for headings, Inter for body text) gives the site a modern, technically confident tone.

Speed as a foundation, not an afterthought

I regularly test this site with Google's PageSpeed Insights — the same tool I recommend in the article on website speed. When the mobile score came back at 85 instead of the target 90+, I tracked down the exact cause (render-blocking font loading, animation libraries loading before the page needed them) and fixed it. The result is measured, not just promised:

Technical SEO from the first line of code

The site has structured data (Schema.org) for the business, FAQs, the blog and this article, bilingual hreflang links between the Slovenian and English versions, a proper sitemap.xml and robots.txt, and IndexNow, which notifies search engines (Bing, Yandex, Seznam.cz, Naver) of every update immediately, instead of waiting for the next scheduled crawl. Google doesn't support IndexNow (yet) — for Google, pages are submitted directly through Google Search Console.

A site that keeps improving

No website is ever really "finished" — this one isn't either. I regularly review it, check accessibility and speed, and fix whatever I find. The same standard applies to every project I take on for a client.
